Driving down Hwy 1 along the Pacific Coast is one experience everyone should try to do.  Get a book and a map of all the lighthouses on the coast and see how many you can go to.  This is lighthouse has a sister lighthouse further up the coast north of San Francisco.  They are the same in construction and are the tallest lighthouses on the Pacific Coast.  Some of the lighthouses have accommodations for overnight visitors.
